Crochet Heirloom Tomato Pattern
This amigurumi heirloom tomato is a quick, beginner friendly pattern, that uses minimal supplies! This pattern is available for FREE on my blog or you can follow along with the video tutorial on my YouTube Channel! You can also find a printable, PDF version in my Etsy Shop!
This heirloom tomato is the sixth pattern for the Pregnancy Progress Project! Measuring about 6″, it’s the same size as a baby at 19 weeks of pregnancy! I hope you enjoy this tutorial, now let’s get making!
- This pattern is worked in the round and is not joined at the end of each round. Use a stitch marker to keep proper count.
- Repeat instructions given between the asterisks (*) until the end of each round.
- The number given at the end of each round states the total number of stitches for that round.
- Final size is approximately 6″ wide
- Medium (4) weight yarn in Red and Green
- Hook: 4.00mm (G)
- Polyester Fiber Fill
- Yarn Needle
- Stitch Marker
- 2 10mm Safety Eyes (Optional)
- Black Crochet Thread (Optional)

Magic Circle, CH 1
Round 1: SC x7 inside circle (7)
Round 2: 2 SC in each ST around (14)
Round 3: *1 SC in 1st ST, 2 SC in next* (21)
Round 4: *1 SC in 1st 2 STs, 2 SC in next* (28)
Round 5: *1 SC in 1st 3 STs, 2 SC in next* (35)
Round 6: *1 SC in 1st 4 STs, 2 SC in next* (42)
Round 7: *1 SC in 1st 5 STs, 2 SC in next* (49)
Round 8: *1 SC in 1st 6 STs, 2 SC in next* (56)
Round 9: *1 SC in 1st 7 STs, 2 SC in next* (63)
Rounds 10-20: SC in each ST around (63)
Round 21: *1 SC in 1st 7 STs, SC2TOG in next* (56)

Add eyes between rounds 19 & 20, and 4 STs apart. Using the crochet thread, add the mouth centered between the eyes and 1 ST down.
Round 23: *1 SC in 1st 5 STs, SC2TOG in next* (42)
Round 24: *1 SC in 1st 4 STs, SC2TOG in next* (35)
Round 25: *1 SC in 1st 3 STs, SC2TOG in next* (28)
Round 26: *1 SC in 1st 2 STs, SC2TOG in next* (21)
Round 27: *1 SC in 1st ST, SC2TOG in next* (14)
Round 28: SC2TOG x7 (7)
Tie off and cut yarn leaving a long, 24” tail. Weave tail through final 7 STs. Secure with a knot. Take long tail and insert through the top of the tomato and down through to the bottom center hole. Wrap up around the outside of the tomato and back through the top. Repeat as many times as necessary to create the bumps around the tomato. When you reach your desired amount, tie off yarn and secure with a knot.
Magic Circle, CH 1
Round 1: SC x7 inside circle (7) Join with a SL ST to the 1st SC.
Round 2: *CH 5. Starting in the 2nd CH from the hook, work a SC in each ST down (4). SL ST to the next ST.* Repeat for a total of 7 leaves/spikes. SL ST to the base of the 1st CH.
Tie off leaving a 12” tail. Sew the leaf on top of the tomato. Weave in end.
